Writerly friends! I'd love to know: what's the best piece of writing wisdom or advice you've received?

All fabulous craft advice, Michelle, and things we forget too often, even when we know them.

The writing wisdom that's resonating most for me these days centers around giving myself credit for showing up to the page. And, when writing feels hard, asking myself, "What if it were easy?"

Ooooh "What if it were easy?" feels like such a gentle, generative reframe for those days when writing feels hard. And yes to giving ourselves credit for showing up to the page! I could certainly take a lesson from that more often, too. 💛

It's me, I'm the nerd friend! :P And proud of it! I'm so so glad you decided to share this post. That connection you made between giving the reader space to have their own experience and coaching? Brilliant. I'm not sure I would've seen that resonance if you hadn't pointed it out and now it's so obvious! Such an important yet often challenging task, especially for those of us who crave being understood AND helping others understand themselves.

Man, it is SUCH a tight line to walk! It's been so, so gratifying to learn specific ways to do it skillfully, straight from writers I really admire. Not that it always feels easy now, but at least I have some north star guidance to come back to. Thank you so much for your encouragement, as always. 💛

I don’t really have writerly wisdom to share, but I appreciate the advice you shared. Thank you! :-)
